In a battle between the Galman Empire and the Bolar Federation, a stray proton missile crashes into the Sun, causing a chain reaction that may spell doom for the planet Earth. With a one year deadline, the Yamato and her crew are given the mission to set out into the universe in search of a new home planet. To complicate matters, the war between the two alien factions continues to be fought and new alliances may prove to be the salvation for humanity.
